In
1969 the Idaho Legislature enacted legislation that made possible the
first full-time basic police academy which opened on January 4, 1970.
In 1974 legislation was passed which mandated that all peace officers
within the state be certified and in 1995 the Idaho Legislature approved
a self-sponsored program. The Idaho State Police is a 148,000 square
foot facility located on 43 acres in Meridian, Idaho. The facility includes
an administration building, physical training building, dormitory, cafeteria
and warehouse. The campus houses the administrative offices, state-of-the-art
classrooms, physical training areas, and student accommodations to make
this a modern and complete educational facility.
PLEASE NOTE: Self Sponsored Students may indicate which Patrol Academy they would like to attend, BUT it is POST's obligation to train officers/deputies already affiliated with a law enforcement agency first. If there is no space available in an academy for Self Sponsored Students, they will be moved to another academy. Once you have submitted an application, please DO NOT call about the status of it. You will be contacted as to whether you are accepted to test.
Self-Sponsored Application DUE DATE for Patrol Academy #157 (January 7, 2008) is September 15, 2007.
