Chief Investigator – Criminal Investigations Unit

 

Position  Available: Chief Investigator in the Criminal Law Division, Criminal Investigations Unit.

Location:                    Boise, Idaho.  As Idaho’s capitol, Boise is a growing city of approximately 208,000 and serves as headquarters for several
                                      major national and international corporations.  Boise offers a rich variety of both cultural and recreational opportunities.
                                      Idaho’s world-famous fly-fishing, skiing, kayaking and hiking are all within easy access.  Housing costs are moderate.

Primary Duties:        The Chief Investigator will be assigned to supervise the Criminal Investigations Unit of the Criminal Law Division.  The Unit
                                      consists of four investigators and one administrative staff member.  The Unit is charged with providing investigative support to
                                      the Special
Prosecutions, Appellate and Capital Litigation Units of the Criminal Law Division. The Criminal Investigations Unit
                                      also provides investigative assistance and support to county prosecutors and law enforcement agencies statewide as
                                      requested. The nature of the investigations addressed by the Criminal Investigations Unit ranges from serious felonies to
                                      public corruption cases. The Unit’s investigations require extensive interviews, collecting evidence and analyzing complex
                                      financial and governmental documents. The Unit’s investigations frequently require preparation of complex investigative
                                      reports, exhibits and documents for use by prosecuting authorities.  The investigations frequently require overnight travel. The
                                      duties include assigning and supervising investigations, and ensuring they are completed in a thorough, professional and
                                      timely fashion.  The Chief Investigator will: Review investigative reports and ensure they are completed in compliance with Unit
                                      reporting policies; Carry a personal caseload and conduct investigations; and, Communicate with public officials throughout
                                      the state during the course of investigations.

Requirements:         Applicant must hold current Idaho POST Certification.  Applicant should have some demonstrated law enforcement
                                     management experience.  Applicants for the position should have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED and at least
                                     five years law enforcement experience as a detective or criminal investigator.  A Bachelor’s degree or greater in Police
                                     Science, Criminal Justice or other relevant academic field is desirable.  Applicant should demonstrate above average
                                     communication and interpersonal skills, writing skills and the ability to effectively review the written reports of others.  Applicant
                                     should possess a thorough understanding of laws, policies and rules of evidence applicable to Idaho law enforcement service.
