RE:      K-9 Units

As most of you are aware, POST hired me in December of 2004 to manage the K-9 certification program for the State of Idaho.  Over the last year, with the help of 11 POST certified K-9 Evaluator/Trainers and your support, we have come milestones in streamlining the K-9 certification process and updating rules and regulations regarding K-9 units in our state.

In an attempt to better the program even more, I am asking for your assistance in gathering specific information about Idaho Law Enforcement K-9 Teams. With the requested information, I will be able to better assess training needs for our K-9 teams specific to their areas of expertise. This information will also allow me to get legal updates and training announcements to the handlers in a timely manner.   I strongly encourage all agencies with a K-9 program in place to participate in this survey, as it is for the benefit of all law enforcement throughout the state.

I have enclosed a survey form for you to give to each handler working a dog in your agency.  You may make additional copies of the form as needed.  It is my goal to make the K-9 program in the State of Idaho the best in the nation.  With your help, we can make this happen.  Thank you for your time and participation in this survey. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please don’t ever hesitate to call me at (208) 884-7327 or (208) 573-0262 or email me at jil.nichols@post.idaho.gov .  Thanks again and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
